“Bridging the Gap – Actors, Stunts, and Authentic Action”
I was on a gig recently, chatting with another performer, and the topic of stunts came up — specifically, why being on the British Stunt Register (BSR) is seen as such a golden ticket in our industry.
He said, “You’ve got the skills, mate — why aren’t you on the Register?”
And honestly, it’s a fair question.
Here’s the thing: I’ve got over 2 acting degrees with 15 years in martial arts, two black belts (Bujinkan Ninjutsu and MSMA), 12 years of Kendo, plus extensive weapons, CQB, horse riding, and even banger racing experience. I’ve trained hard for performance realism — not to do full stunts, but to make my acting and movement feel authentic on camera.
I’ve got mates on the stunt register, and I have nothing but respect for what they do — the training, the risk, the precision. It’s an entirely different world of physical discipline, and I admire it.
But there’s a strange space between actors who train for authentic action performance and those who go all the way into stunt registration. The gap’s real.
A lot of talented, highly trained performers get overlooked just because they’re not “on the list.”
It’s funny, really — the industry says it wants realism and grounded performances, yet it often forgets that some of us are actors first who’ve built years of physical craft to make that realism possible. We’re not trying to take stunt jobs — we’re trying to bring truth to the physical side of storytelling.
I don’t do this for a title. I do it because I love to act, to perform, and to make every fight, every movement, every scene feel real.
That’s what I stand for — authentic action, not imitation.
